Mystery & Thrillers Editorial Review
**** The reception of "Madame Web" focuses heavily on a divisive interpretation among viewers, particularly regarding its quality as a superhero film and its connection to the broader Spider-Man universe. Reviewers are split, with some ardently loving the film despite acknowledging its shortcomings, particularly in how it diverges from original comic book elements. Several viewers found enjoyment in the film if they lowered their expectations, describing it as a film that encourages viewers to switch off their critical thinking and simply enjoy the experience. There is appreciation for the lead actresses and the standout Steelbook packaging, which has been praised for its quality and appealing features. Others expressed disappointment, suggesting that the film fails to meet the high standards set by previous superhero movies, especially given its ties to a franchise that includes fan-favorites like Spider-Man. Critics cited a frustrating disconnect as Spider-Man does not appear, leading to dissatisfaction from fans expecting a more traditional superhero experience. The narrative's targeted demographic shift towards women and girls was noted but met with mixed feelings. Ultimately, "Madame Web" seems to resonate best with those willing to embrace its artifice and overlook its flaws, making it a love-it-or-hate-it type of film that certainly makes for an engaging discussion among viewers. **
