- Muhammed ibn Tufeyl el-Kaysi (ö. 1185): XII. yüzyıl başlarında Endülüs'te, Granada'nın Vadiaş beldesinde dünya gelmiştir. Arapların Kays kabilesine mensuptur. Ünlü bir hekim, filozof, matematikçi ve şairdir. İbn Sina'yı takip eden İşrakıyye düşüncesinin mensubu sayılmaktadır. Ortaçağ Avrupası'nda Abubacer adıyla tanınmıştır. 1130-1269 yılları arasında Endülüs'te hüküm sürmüş olan Muvahhidler döneminde yaşamıştır. Granada'da hekimlik yapmış, ardından bölge valisine katip olmuştur. 1147'de Fas'ı ele geçiren Muvahhid hanedanının kurucusu Abdülmü'min'in Sebte ve Tanca valisi olan oğluna sır katibi olarak tayin edilmiştir. Sonunda Muvahhid halifesi Ebu Ya'kub Yusuf'un sarayında kadı ve hekimlik görevlerini üstlenmiştir. Kendi kendini eğiten insanın hikayesi olan Hayy bin Yakzan Ortaçağ'ın en önemli dini-felsefi eserlerinden biri sayılmaktadır. İbranice, Latince, Flamanca, Fransızca, Almanca, İngilizce çevirileriyle XVII. ve XVIII. yüzyıl Avrupası'nın en popüler eserlerinden biri olmuş, Avrupa edebiyatında azımsanmayacak bir iz bırakmıştır.
